Founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin met at Stanford University.

They built a search engine called BackRub, that stood out because of it's use of links to rank websites.

BackRub was renamed to Google (a play on the mathematical term "googol", a 1 followed by 100 zeros).

Google relocated to Mountain View, and they redesigned their logo.

Google introduced AdWords, a self-service tool for creating online ad campaigns.

AdSense launched as a tool for making revenue of ads on your websites.

Gmail was launched on April Fool's Day.

Google acquired the digital mapping company Keyhole, and soon after launched Google Maps & Google Earth.

YouTube was acquired by Google.

The mobile phone operating system "Android" was announced. Streetview launched in the U.S.

The Google Chrome web browser was launched.

Google Announces Chrome OS.

Google introduced the world to Google+.

Google reorganized and the holding company Alphabet Inc. was born.

The AI powered Google Assistant was launched, and Google Announces their new Smartphone: the Google Pixel.
